In-hand work can feel calm, clear, and supportive. For you and for your horse.
You may have heard that in-hand work can transform posture, straightness, and balance. You may also feel unsure where to begin.
Many riders worry about doing it wrong. About confusing their horse. Or about creating tension when they are trying to help.
If that sounds familiar, you are not alone.
There is a lot of conflicting advice around in-hand work. It can feel technical, overwhelming, and easy to misinterpret. What often gets missed is that successful in-hand work is not just about the exercises.
How you approach the work matters just as much as what you do.
Introducing...
The Secrets of Successful In-Hand
This step-by-step guide is designed to give you a clear, grounded starting point for in-hand work.
It focuses on the foundations that make the difference between work that feels awkward or forced, and work that feels supportive and constructive for your horse.
You will learn both the practical basics and the inner approach that helps your horse stay calm, attentive, and willing.
When those two pieces come together, change begins to happen quietly.
Your horse starts to soften and straighten, not because they are being pushed into a position, but because moving this way feels easier for them.
What this Guide Covers:
The practical foundations
You will learn what in-hand work actually is, where to position yourself, how to hold the reins, and how to move alongside your horse. Everything is explained clearly and visually, even if you are completely new to this work.
The mindset that supports real change
You will also learn how to approach each session in a way that helps your horse stay relaxed and focused. This is about connection, not control, and about creating the conditions where learning can take place.
This combination is what allows in-hand work to feel purposeful rather than effortful.

I'm Diana
FOUNDER OF THE POWER OF WALK
Like many riders, I grew up dreaming of riding in harmony with my horse.
As I progressed through traditional training and qualifications, that feeling became harder to find. On the outside, everything looked successful. Inside, riding felt increasingly mechanical and disconnected.
Things began to change when I slowed down and started paying close attention to the walk. Through this, and through my work with my horses, I discovered a different way of developing balance, straightness, and strength.
One that did not rely on force or endless repetition.
I saw horses develop topline, softness, and ease through clarity and feel. That experience became the foundation of the work I now teach through The Power of Walk.
I created this guide to offer riders a clear and thoughtful introduction to in-hand work, based on the elements that truly matter and are often overlooked.
